Unofficial Soundtrack: Book of Romans
Mike Avery
“When I heard Shakespearean-trained actor Alexander Scourby, who lent his deep authoritative voice to the classic reading of the King James Bible, it was for me, a unique listening experience. While this recording is undoubtedly a classic, I wanted to hear a contemporary electronic soundtrack that I felt would engage today’s audience with the depth of the text that Scourby so brilliantly captures.
I approached Mike (Spike) Avery, with whom I have worked performing the biblical Psalms in Sons of Korah and asked him to take up the challenge. As a team, we have musically ‘dressed up’ the Psalms as those who have heard Sons of Korah can testify.
What we were looking for however, was a completely different sound and we were using spoken text rather than sung lyrics. I believe this is an impressive start to what we hope will be a whole series of albums based on different books of the Bible.
We chose Romans to begin with because it presents such a clear outline of the gospel message. We have worked with highlights of the text to give people a taste of what lies within this amazing book in the hope that this will draw people into exploring the full text for themselves.” Matt Jacoby – Sons of Korah
